Hong Kong: Day Four

Our last day in Hong Kong began with some surprisingly yummy congee, a type of rice porridge. We ordered a sweet corn and bean curd congee and a chicken congee. We were both taken aback by how much we enjoyed the traditional meal!

After congee, we stopped by one of the largest malls in one of the tallest buildings in Hong Kong - the IFC tower. On the 55th floor is a monetary museum with observation windows. The museum proved to be extremely helpful in understanding Hong Kong's unique origins and current system. Particularly interesting is that their currency is produced by 3 different banks under the government's approval and their link to the U.S. dollar.

We descended from the museum, took a pitstop in the Apple store and an English bookstore, grabbed a quick bite to eat and then rode an old time tram around part of the city before heading to the airport.

Luckily we encountered only a slight flight delay and I officially started work in Beijing the next day!

Some observations I took away from our trip to Hong Kong:
- there are a ridiculous amount of high end designers practically tripping over each other
- the interesting British colonial legacy that is still visible in some aspects of the city
- unique marriage of modernity, luxury, and traditionalism
- much more diverse population than in Beijing
